Mustang Shelby GT500 Catches Fire

A Classic Shelby GT500 catches fire and burns to the ground and you won’t believe how much this thing was worth.

We’d much rather be bringing you video of a GT500 blowing up the dyno than this awful scene.

Many car enthusiasts cringe at the sight of a classic vehicle meeting its demise and there’s few cars you’d be more horrified to see get torched than a vintage Shelby GT500. Sadly, that’s exactly what happened to German TV star Mark Keller’s personal 1967-1968 GT500 on his way to breakfast. The TV star is known for his lead role on the German television series “Alarm für Cobra 11″ (translates to “”The Motorway Police”) and when approached by local law enforcement as to why he was burning a Mustang in the middle of the street for TV, Mark adamantly informed them this was no stunt and his personal GT500 was indeed melting before their eyes. Even those passing by were sure it was another stunt for the show:

Some passers-by thought we turn a new episode of ‘Alarm für Cobra 11” – Mark Keller via a poor English to German translation

What Started The Fire?

The cause is not confirmed but believed to have been stared by gasoline leaking onto the carburetor and igniting, causing the entire engine bay to go up in flames. That’s one expensive bonfire, as this classic piece of American Muscle was said to have been worth around 120,000 Euros, or ~ $161,484.00.

Worth 160 K US and he’s a Star? There’s no Way this should not be restored to original!
And if it’s not, I’ll buy it for scrap, and do it myself! Fantastic vehicle, and a shame not to make it right!
