AM-Sponsored Drivers Compete at Bradenton

At AmericanMuscle, it goes without saying that we’re all about Mustangs. So,when we had the chance to sponsor two great Mustang drivers in the 2010 NMRA Keystone Ford Nationals series, we jumped on it. Tim Matherly and Bart Tobener of MVPerformance both kicked off the season this past weekend at the NMRA Spring Break Shootout in sunny Bradenton, Florida – the most prestigious race of the NMRA season. We’ll be posting more info on Tim and Bart as the season progresses, but let’s get right to a recap of the weekend.

Let’s just say Bart opened some eyes this weekend in the driver-friendly cool weather at Bradenton:

Bart took the top spot away from defending EFI Renegade class champ Alton Clement during qualifying on Sunday afternoon, and also clocked a “who dat??” speed of 166 MPH in his Fox Body notchback, powered by a Vortech YSI Supercharged 5.4L 4V modular engine.

“Bad Bart” has been drag racing since 1998, and is competing this season in the EFI Renegade class. The competition is incredibly tough, but after his amazing qualifying run, Bart is confident that he’s going to be a points front-runner in his class all through the season.

Tim Matherly is the reigning 2009 NMRA Real Street Champion, having won the NMRA Real Street class at four different events in 2009. In June of ’09, he set the top speed record of 146.050 at Atco (NJ) in his MVPerformance Mustang. This year, Tim returns with a 2010 Mustang that is really race-styled and ready to challenge his prior record.

Though Tim didn’t make it to the finals in Real Street class at Bradenton this year, his crew fought through a host of mechanical issues (clutch, transmission, and tensioner, requiring an engine swap) and fought up the ladder to make the semi’s. He’s no stranger to hard work, and that’s why he is the defending champ in his class.

Was it a great weekend? You bet – from the Hooter’s bash on Friday through the final throwdown on Sunday evening, the fans came away knowing that AmericanMuscle is sponsoring a couple of winners!
