Gallery: Ford Unveils “Apollo Edition” 2015 Mustang

2015 Apollo Edition Mustang

Ford set its sights for the stars with the 2015 Mustang Apollo Edition which is slated to be auctioned off for charity! For the eighth straight year, Ford has created a one-off aviation themed Mustang with the goal of benefiting the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) youth eduction programs, such as the Young Eagles.

The Apollo Edition Mustang is more than just a few body parts and some extra paint. This space themed pony packs a staggering 627 HP and 540 TQ, which is more than enough power to put you into orbit. Check out the gallery toward the bottom of the page to see all of the pictures of this incredible Mustang!

Apollo Edition Mustang Performance

The Apollo Edition Mustang features a nice selection of 2015 performance parts, such as:

  • 2015 GT 5.0L
  • Ford Performance Supercharger
  • X-Pipe with side and rear exhaust
  • Ford Performance Shifter
  • Sport Tuned Suspension
  • Six-piston Brembo Brakes
  • Custom 21″ Forgiato Wheels

The 2015 Apollo Edition Mustang is based off of a 2015 GT Fastback and utilizes the stock 5.0L motor. However, to turn up the power, a Ford Performance Supercharger Kit was added to turn up the power to 627/540 HP/TQ. An X-Pipe with side and rear exhausts allows the S550’s engine to scream as you step on the throttle.

Helping to reign in that power are six-piston Brembo Brakes, which are paired up with a set of custom Forgiato wheels. Improving the already impressive IRS system, is a Ford Sport Tuned Suspension System, making this rocket ship a corner carver.

Apollo Edition Mustang Appearance

The Apollo Mustang’s appearance highlights:

  • One-of-a-kind glossy pure white and pure black non-production paint scheme
  • Carbon Fiber Front Splitter
  • Carbon Fiber Rear Diffuser
  • Carbon Fiber Rocker Moldings
  • LED underbody Lighting
  • Performance Gauges
  • Modified Instrument Cluster
  • Custom sill plates, embroidered seats, trim panels and floor mats

Without a doubt, the Apollo Edition Mustang is one of the most head turning Mustang’s that Ford has built for charity; although last year’s F-35 Lightening Mustang and the previous year’s Thunderbird Mustang are definitely stiff competition.

With that said, the Apollo Edition Mustang features a totally unique look, which a large part of is due to the vision of Ford Design Manager, Melvin Betancourt. The Apollo Mustang features a custom non-production paint scheme that mimicks the Apollo design; glossy pure white and pure black paint lay the foundation, while a few American Flags and “UNITED STATES” lettering tie the look together.

A mix of carbon fiber goodies such as a front splitter, rear diffuser, and rocker moldings give the Apollo Mustang a space ship like appearance. LED underbody lighting gives hits Mustang a unique appearance that is inspired by the atmospheric re-entry of the Apollo spacecraft.

How Many Apollo Mustangs Will Be Made?

Unfortunately this is a completely one-off Mustang and will be the only one in existence. This Mustang was created with the purpose of being auctioned off to charity that benefit the Experimental Aircraft Association youth programs, with 100% of the proceeds going to programs like the Young Eagles. The auction of the Mustang will be held at the EAA Gathering of Eagles Gala.

“The Apollo program delivered astonishing innovations in technology and achieved a national goal of landing the first human on the moon,” said Edsel B. Ford II, a member of the Ford board of directors. “The entire program was extraordinary – one of our nation’s greatest technological achievements. With this year’s stunning Apollo Edition Mustang, we salute that spirit of American ingenuity with the quintessential American automobile – Ford Mustang.”

What are your thoughts on the Apollo Mustang? Is it totally out of this world cool? Or does it not even reach orbit?
