Watch The 2015 Shelby GT350R Tear Up The Goodwood Festival of Speed

Former Stig Surprised by the 2015 GT350R

The 2015 Shelby GT350R is gathering followers in the UK because of its recent showing at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The car tore up the track with former “Stig” of Top Gear, Ben Collins, behind the wheel. The run was Collins first experience with the new 350, and he had some choice words after the fact. He said, “The new Mustang is completely different and I experienced that in the standard car and I thought, oh I’d be fine in this 350 Shelby, but this is another grade up, it’s weapons grade superpower.”

Looking at the footage, Collins did fishtail a little on takeoff, and around one corner the GT350R nearly started a rally career. It’s safe to say Collins didn’t expect the power offered by this new beast. In the upcoming days for the rest of the Festival (the Festival ends June 28th) no doubt he’ll be grinning all the way up the hill climb, especially with the potent performance of the GT350!

The GT350R’s Competitive Brother is Going International

Another GT350R, this time the GT350R-C, will make a showing at Watkins Glen International Raceway. The race will be aired on on June 27th and on Fox Sports 1 on July 5th. Dave Pericak, Global Ford Performance’s director, says, “Like so many Mustangs before it, the Shelby GT350R is a car born to race. We’re taking it to the track as the GT350R-C and we’re ready to see what it can do against the best competition in the world.”

The C is powered with a 5.2L flat-plan crankshaft V8, and it’s supported by a slightly more developed version of the GT350R’s independent suspension. The spring rates were altered along with the anti-roll bars, ride height, and alignment settings in order to hone the C for the race track.

The president of IMSA, Scott Atherton, threw in his two cents by saying, “Mustang has earned icon status through its racing heritage going back to the competition Mustangs of the 1960s, and this new race car will undoubtedly add to the legend.” With a former Stig tearing up part of the UK and the GT350R-C prepping to cause havoc in another, us fans stateside will be looking forward to seeing Shelby’s new monster live up to the Shelby legacy.

Buy hey, if the GT350 isn’t your cup of tea, there is always the 2015 Shelby Super Snake…
