Stage 1 Complete – Introducing Our Foxbody Project Car!

Introducing AmericanMuscle’s first Foxbody project car. While at first glance this Mustang might have die-hard Foxbody fans cringing at its horrid condition, we decided to show the old clunker some love and restore it back to pristine shape. After all, it might not be a pretty sight now, but it’s still a Mustang and that alone makes it well worth saving.

Stage 1

In the first edition of our Foxbody project build, we started with basic maintenance and tune-up work just to keep the raggedy convertible from breaking down on us before sending it in for some paint. We started by replacing the destroyed clutch and fixing the engine misfire that was most likely the product of the old plugs, wires and an ancient distributor cap. As the older Foxes tend to do, our vert was running a little hot before we started tearing into it at the shop. To solve this, we threw in a brand new Mishimoto radiator, fan, thermostat, and hose kit by Ford Racing.

The one area in more need of an overhaul than the sluggish motor was the car’s body. When we found this Foxbody, the exterior was rougher on the eyes than a double stacked wing on an SVT. Since this project has the ’93 Cobra as its inspiration, a cobra front bumper was used to replace the worn and damaged stock GT piece. We also replaced a fender, the trunk lid and a few other odds and ends that did not hold up well over time.

With the bare-minimum basics and exterior repair work out of the way, we sent our Foxbody over to the paint booth for a desperately needed makeover. Check in soon and see what we have up our sleeves for Stage 2 of our Foxbody project car.

Give us a shout and tell us where we should take our Foxbody Project next!
