WATCH: Our 2012 Boss 302 Mustang vs. a Camaro SS!


We might be having too much fun, but last week AmericanMuscle rented out the Lightning road course over at New Jersey Motorsports Park. We brought our brand new Boss 302 Mustang and decided to tear up the course against a 2010 Camaro SS! (oh yes we did!)

There’s no question that our purpose-built stock Boss 302 had a handling and braking advantage over the similarly-hp-rated Camaro SS. To be fair, the Camaro SS was also bone stock, and might have had no chance!

Thanks to our drivers (AM Employees: Jim Bianco and Andrew Ball) for taking some time from their real work for a boring day at the track with the biggest rivals in muscle car history!

  1. I have to admit. I did’nt think that the 2012 Boss Mustang would pull off the win in the end. The 2010 Chevy Camaro SS, had an advantage at the starting line, but to see two all American rivals duke it out on a track, and to have a Ford come out the winner, really makes me happy.

  2. I believe I got more for my money buying the camaroSS at 33,000 versus paying for a boss 302 at a higher dollar amount.  I still am a mustang fan but the camaro is a sweet ride!!

  3. looks like the chevy driver’s foot slipped when trying to push the clutch in and hit the clutch and brake at the same time but it wouldn’t have helped if he did it correct anyway.   Check the handling and drag tests between the new 5.0 and SS, come on guys lets be honest about this no mods or flash tunes, factory stock tests.     Remember the SS is 378 cubic inches and the 5.0 is the same as the boss in cubic inches, just 302 and is just a little bit lighter.   The Boss has a few extras like different engine internals and suspension but still a street car.

  4.      I own the infamous S-197.  What I have learned is that the cost per horsepower is far lower on the Ford than on the Chevy. The more power you place in your pony-car, the more likely you will humiliate the Corvette. Wake up GM. Repeat what you did 15 years ago. Keep the crown jewel and dump the Camaro.

  5. looks like gm sucks once again hahahahah. you gm guys can make up your excuses but we all saw what just happened and even if the camero used his brakes i dont think anyone saw him catchn the mustang at all after the first corner

  6. ok, so to everybody who obviously didnt see, the boss lit up the tires on the launch, then shut down to gain traction which is why the camaro pulled ahead on the dig part, now thats mainly a small driver error but if both cars were launched perfectly with minimal wheel spin the boss would walk all up, down, in and out of the camaros ass, 0-60 with a boss 302 is 3.9-4.0 seconds flat, camaro? 4.7 at best…mustang ftw

  8. I would love to have a new Boss 302….but I’m only 19 haha. The Camaro is a nice car and I’ll respect it but I would choose the mustang or even the challenger over it.
    Personally, I think we should all stop fighting between Ford vs Chevy and instead Unite against stupid Asian cars!!

  10. The camaro only weighs more because its easier to pick up chicks in it than a mustang, i like both of the cars but when it comes to bagging chicks…they can not resist the batmobile. I dare you to go to club or bar and try not to come home with a girl who wants to bang a guy that owns a camaro. Ive tried, believe me i have tried. I only wish it was longer so i could fit in the backseat with a chickita. I think its like a mystery thing.

  11. That race could not have come out any other way!!! I own a 2008 SRT8, 2010 Camaro SS, and 2012 Boss 302. I can personally tell you that the team at Ford did it right!!! This is one great responsive car built for one thing. TO BE ON A ROAD COURSE! If GM does not do anything to the suspension on the new ZL1 Camaro the outcome on the track will still be the same. Now you know why Ford did not go bankrupt. They stuck with the car that made them what they are today. Winners!!! It reminds me of the 70’S again. Let the muscle car war begin!!!

  13. The boss 302 is a awesome car. The only problem is Ford is only making 4000 of them and the dealers are adding 25k to the sticker price. I would buy one for MSRP in a heart beat but 60k is insane. Why isn’t Ford producing these in quantity? T

I can’t understand why such videos insist on overlaying the speed metal sound of hot V-8s with rock music.  To me, the sound of a high-rpm V8 winding out is one of the most delicious sounds on earth (and one which will be as gone one day as a steam locomotive’s mournful whistle).  Why the holy heck cover it up with that schlock?

  16. this isnt for the camaro vs mustang but for the Ford vs GM these two companys are way out of camparison (Ford obviously being the best) for all you chevs who think other wise go grab chevys super car and pit it against the Ford GT oh wait you cant chevys to scared to produce a super car because they know it will lose to the ford gt which beat the famed company and ferrari in the 24 hours of le mans thre is a reason they call it the ferrari killer and theres a reason it got made into the 3rd fastest car in the world (saleen s7) so chevy go build a super car that can beat feraris for FOUR YEARS STRAIGHT AND THEN COME TALK TO ME ABOUT WHOS BETTERchevy isnt even its own companie it was founded and funded by a guy who quit working at ford !   17. I think you guys are forgetting that ford was also bailed out. They just kept it under wraps. Look it up. At any rate. Why the hell are we arguing over which AMERICAN comany is better than another AMERICAN company? What we NEED to do is band together and kick some rice burning ASS! BOTH are good cars with their own set of downfalls. Point being you’ll still get a massive speeding ticket kicking a ricers ass in either car. I KNOW we can all agree with that

  19. A boss 302 is supercharged motor while a camaro is a naturally aspirated 376. Sure the mustang will be faster, but place a forced induction centrifugal super on the camaro and see the results.

  20. I really expected the camaro to go toe to toe! The winner would take by a nose, the new Boss 302 must be a real beast out on the streets, because the Camaro SS or Super-Sport! Is bad-ass in its own right!!! Very impressive! Can you say 1969 all over again ZL1 or should I say ZL-Won!!! Bring on your little garden snake now! Ford chumps!!! Also can you spell 1LE Ford fans next spanking or here’s another easy word to spell for you Ford sports fans “COPO!”
