The Booth

The facility at AmericanMuscle is nothing less than state of the art. It was designed and built by Global Finishing Solutions, the exclusive paint booth supplier to all OEM-endorsed paint shops. The booth at AmericanMuscle is a fully-loaded GFS system that employs numerous innovative technologies to produce a highly efficient, clean room environment and a minimal carbon footprint. The foundation for this eco-friendly program is the next-generation water-base paint that exceeds the quality and durability of traditional toxic solvent-base paints.

Using a semi-downdraft system, the paint booth achieves optimal painting conditions by shooting air down from the ceiling to evenly coat the painting surface. The air then circulates up and out the back of the booth where is it removed by the comprehensive filter system. This method, combined with air-powered Sata paint guns, provides an optimal formula for finished product that surpasses even OEM factory standards, not to mention a local paint shop.

The AmericanMuscle 14-Step Painting Process

Every painted part from AmericanMuscle undergoes a meticulous 14-step process in order to produce only the highest quality results.

All Current Pre-Painted Mustang Parts

Inspection – Every part is carefully inspected by the AmericanMuscle paint team to determine if it is a viable candidate for the AM paint program.

Sanding – Before the painting even begins, parts are sanded by hand to remove any visible imperfections.

Primer – As the first coat to be applied, primer provides a solid base for the paint and fills any pinholes or other microscopic inconsistencies in the surface.

Sand 2 – Primered parts are sanded a second, time providing a perfectly smooth surface for painting.

Cure – The curing process ensures the primer is dried and set before further coats are applied. To cure the parts, the booth is heated to 185º for 5 minutes, then 170º for 15 minutes, and finally cooled for 3 minutes before the sealed environment is opened for inspection.

Sealer – Before the paint can be applied, all parts are treated with a sealer that facilitates adhesion and long-term durability.

Base Coat 1 – This is the first application of toned paint. Here the color is thin and weak by comparison to the finished product.

Base Coat 2 – The second round of paint builds on the first, effectively bolstering color depth and enhancing a smooth, shiny finish.

Base Coat 3 – A third coat delivers maximum depth in color and durability for long-term use on your Mustang in all possible environments.

Clear Coat – Clear coat is applied to bring out that glossy quality that truly makes a Mustang shine. Clear coat is the most durable layer, providing a hard shell of protection around your Mustang’s exterior.

Clear Coat 2 – To further enhance a strong, glossy exterior, a second clear coat is applied to all parts.

Cure 2 – Once the multiple layers of primer, sealer, base coat and finally clear coat have been applied, trim parts undergo a second curing process in order to achieve a perfect finish.

Cool – After the parts are cured and then cooled inside the paint booth they are removed to the cooling room where they rest undisturbed for an additional 8 to 12 hours.

Wet Sand – The AmericanMuscle master painter carefully examines every part in a final inspection to determine if parts require additional wet sanding to remove any minor imperfections before final packaging.

It would be sweet if the prepainted went back past 05′ but at least it is available for the recent years. I imagine it will only expand with time and demand for the products. Most importantly I’m glad to see AM getting some hot tail in the video besides the one on the ride. Keep the eye candy coming!!!!

  2. chris says:

Here are the parts that I would suggest adding: (I have an 07 GT)

    CDC Aggressive Chin Spoiler
    Roush Rear Spoiler/Hood Scoop/Louvers

Add those and I will order them ASAP

  3. BOB says:

Im with John.. AM should offer pre-painted parts for years before 05

    preferebly some for a 99..

  4. Ken says:

yep need painted parts for the 99-04

  5. Angelo says:

Yes, we need painted parts for 99-04 mustangs please.

  6. Johnny Harris says:

The 3-M tape sent with the pre-painted side vents must be old! This is not the first time that I have received the 3-M tape that has been bad.

I would also recommend that on the pre-painted items, that someone take the time to clean the paint off the back side. Now I am going to have to take the time to get more 3-M tape and Goof-off to clean the paint.

    Thanks very much for listening!

    • AMStanger says:

Thanks for the feedback! We’re always happy to hear from customers. I’m sorry that you received tape that didn’t work, we’re sending some replacements out to you today. The new tape will work for you, and it would be great if you posted some pictures once your parts are installed.

Hello everyone. First off I want to thank AM for the continued improvement and quality given. I only buy my parts from AM and its been a year now since I’ve had my 07 mustang and I never have any complaints about AM. They keep getting better and now with these new pre-painted parts, theirs no competition. Theirs a lot of people complaining and whining about all this but you need to be patient. You can’t expect things to happen overnight. Although I can understand the frustration about expecting something and not being able to get it. For those of you who this applies too, just read what Jeff writes, they are working on it and just need time. It’s a new thing. Don’t worry, I’m positive AM won’t just forget of the 99-04’s.

And finally, the reason why I’m witting this, is my suggestion for some pre-painted parts for 05+. I am just dying to get the lower side scoops and quarter window scoops. Except I only want the Cervini’s brand lower side scoops and quarter window scoops. I don’t really like the scoops provided in the first list of pre-painted parts AM had to offer. If these Cervini’s came pre-painted I wouldn’t think twice!

Also, one last thing. Some people on here have turned their disappointment into anger towards others. People… remember we are all here for the same reason: MUSTANGS. We all love the same thing, are proud of it and shouldn’t be fighting with each other. Instead stand strong together to fight with the enemy. (Charger’s) hahaha enough said.

Thank you AM! Best regards, Bryan

  8. Brian says:

  9. david says:

  10. Pat says:

you need to make parts for 99-04

  11. mike says:

94-98 parts need to be included also.

  12. Larry says:

No painted 2004 parts???? Come on guys, get with the program.

  13. Alec says:

I agree with mike, there is a need for the 94-98 painted parts, if there was i would order ASAP

  14. Jeff says:

Thank you again to everyone for sharing your thoughts and opinions about the parts we should carry.

As I mentioned above, we definitely plan to offer 99-04 parts, and will do so as soon as we can develop a reliable way for matching paint with cars that have see at least five years of wear on their paint. Since we cannot see your cars, and refuse to tarnish our solid reputation with questionable quality, we must continue to work on ways to properly match new paint to 99-04 Mustangs.

At the same time, we continue to improve efficiency in our paint booth production which means we will have more time in the schedule to increase the number of parts offered in the coming weeks or months.

Thank you all once again for your comments, and your enthusiasm for pre-painted parts.

  15. Kevin says:

Sounds good Jeff…lots of us who actually need the pre-painted parts are those of use who have had Mustangs longer which is in the 87-04 group. I think you’ll find your largest market of buyers from these owners.

  16. Cory says:

i agree with everyone on 99-04, however i think they should sell prepainted stuff from 79-2010 since they have engine accessories and some exterior accessories for foxbodies and up

    • Mark Donohue says:

Cory, you have to be realistic, there isn’t much of a market for ‘79-’98 Mustang parts.

Most of these cars died years ago and are in junkyards, or were crushed and recycled as toilet parts.

      “Found On Road Dead”, remember?

      Mark

      • Jon says:

Mark not only is t he 79-98 mustang a very demanded breed but some people take what they can get what kind of toilet parts do you drive proud owner of a 98 gt convertible that is not ready for the junkyard yet!!!!

  17. Derek says:

    I got a 2004 GT. This sucks.

  18. yes there should be pre painted parts for the 99-04 group…i am trying to to biuld my car into a shelby cobra replica and need a new right fender and front bumber..

    • Jeff says:

We’re still working on 99-04 trim parts. We understand there is a huge demand and we truly hope to fulfill that demand. At the same time, we refuse to offer parts substandard parts that will not match the cars they are made for, so developing a system here is a bit of a problem.

As far as replacement fenders and bumpers, never say never, but I doubt you’ll see these larger body parts pre-painted any time soon. When you’re talking about large areas that are fitted to other large areas, like a fender to a hood and door, proper color matching becomes exponentially more difficult, where as mirror covers and chin spoilers do not present these challenges. I am sorry.

  19. Richard says:

I would like a bumper for an 06 GT. Any chance you are going to offer prepainted replacement products like this too?

  20. steve says:

I would love to see AM do a prepaint on the new front fender vent add ons and if you have a GT what is necessary to add these and re apply your GT badging after application?
