PICS: 2013 Shelby GT500 Drives from Georgia to Cali!

It’s not every day that an opportunity presents itself to drive a brand spankin’ new 2013 Shelby GT500 across country, but if someone hands you the keys to one, you take them! These guys from Edmund’s did just that and in one of the best colors around, Deep Impact Blue.

They took a brand new Shelby GT500 with all 662 factory horses packed under the hood and drove that beast 3,300 miles clear across the country from Atlanta, Georgia all the way to freakin’ Southern Cali. They visited many famous Carroll Shelby (RIP) landmarks along the way (and just as many Waffle Houses) and documented every bit of it. Let’s add the fact that there was no radar detector to help these poor guys out!

The photos tell an exciting trip from the new Shelby. They drive through the tiniest town called Leesburg, birthplace of Mr. Carroll Shelby himself and understand why he left! They take on roads under-construction at the Circuit of Americas, a Formula 1 built track in Austin, Texas. They also visit Terlingua and stop by the Shelby museum in Las Vegas, and Carroll’s old LAX shop opened in 1965 that now serves as the Thai Airways cargo terminal.

The longest run between stops was 324 miles and with an average of 20.5 mpg. The trip-record was burning 23.4 mpg along desert roads with speed limit signs posted at 75-80 mph! And good to know that Recaro seats are worth every penny, especially on long road trips! Your ass will thank you!

Check out the photos and comment below to tell us where you would go if you could take one a badass new Shelby on a road trip!
