Do You Like The New 500HP 2014 Ford Mustang?

2014 Ford Mustang Concept Car

The times are indeed a changin’! I think we may have proof of this change as the Mustang world anticipates the release of the 2014 over-haul that has sparked a ton bit of speculation. The interior is rumored to be much better with higher quality materials and the installation of advanced technology. Also, the 2014 Mustang model will be a retro throwback to the 60′s Fastbacks and will now feature change in the form of… a Turbo Charger !

The guys over at Auto Express basically confirmed that the new model will feature a 2.5-liter EcoBoost turbo that will generate about 300-HP and will also feature, drum roll please… Independent Rear Suspension! Go ahead, soak that one up. (And don’t worry, a 5.4-liter 500-HP V8 will be available if you’re after some muscle – afterall, this is a Mustang!)

The confirmed smaller, leaner chassis will only be a rocket-ship with a 500-HP V8! This new platform will help the Mustang make its way over to the UK and other continents (right hand drive), as Ford continues to compete globally.

The rumor that Ford will be featuring the new EcoBoost Turbo in its new model has been circulating for quite some time, but IRS? That’s news! Do you like where the new Mustang is headed? What about the concept design (even though they’re hardly ever accurate)?

they need to change the body style. otherwise there is nothing bad to say about it.

    Not a fan…

  • Highrise955

That’s not a Mustang! That’s a Camaro off shoot with a Pony emblem on it.

  • Camarol83

No. Looks like gm threw up on a already great look.

  • Elvis0513

Why cant they start making mustangs like the boss? with out a super/turbo charge just pure muscle!! and really whats up with the new concept… its an american car not a euro..

  • Jo4roush6

It does look like a Camaro. And dont get so excited about IRS…they tried that in the early 2000″s and now everyone with those cars are swapping back to a solid axle. I think if they are going for a big change, making the Mustang look like an Aston Martin with a Mustang front end would be a cool idea.

  • jc

Looks like a Camaro, no thanks.

  • Sharlene Sowell

Hate it. I’m a mustang gt owner
and a die hard Ford girl and everyone knows the camero copied off.the mustang years ago but let’s not copy them now. The 08 body style is the best body ever, try and get back to that

    • Brandon

Hell yeah!!!!! I have a 2009 GT and like it way better than 04 and older and even like it better than 2010 up.

  • Jinx13027

send that crap to Europe, nothing about that thing says American muscle car icon

  • Chopper12561

looks like a mazda in the front and a camaro in the rear. A definite NO for me. WTF

  • Doupa

Who let a GM designer in the building? This would fail with classic pony car lovers as it’s bending toward a “euro” look. I do like a few features but Mustangs have always carried hard sharp lines. Leave the rounded sheet metal for the euro crowd.

  • Lm

Looks like those UGLY new Camaros!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jay

Nope, I’m a fan of the muscle cars of the late 60;’s early 70′s and my 2006 GT reminds me of those and that’s why I love it. I appreciate what the Camaro has performance wise but it looks like a spaceship to me. The 2014 Stang looks too much like that, and it’s not for me.

I really hope they don’t use this design. But I do like the back end, and fastback idea, but everything else up to the front needs to go. As far as the better grade of material for the interior, independed suspension, and all the edvance little gadgets I personally can live without it. Ford has always built these cars to be affordable to the average working family. Adding all these unnecessary add-ons being like the Jones fam will drive the sticker prices upward into unwanted price ranges. Mustangs are supoose to be solid and affordable. The current prehistoric axle works great, and better then the other cars in its class. It is built to go in a straight line, but can also hit the coners if need be, if it couldn’t, it would not have been able to keep up/break even with the likes of a performer like a the BMW M3. But if Ford can accomplish to build a irs at a good price I will welcome it, if not leave it as an option for people that will be taking these cars to track circuits. But the gt500 would bennifit from a irs if Ford want it to compet with the likes of a zo6. Just my .02cents.

  • Jamestaylor66

I like the 500 hp 5.4 idea , but that body design sucks. Did they just put some mustang badges on a god awful camaro ?

  • Jungle40

I don’t think that they are going to drop the 5.0 after only 3 years.

    • Stangrider1994

yeah, the 5.0 will always be lingering around the mustang, just like it has been for so many years

  • Jungle40

I don’t think that they are going to drop the 5.0 after only 3 years.

  • Xmikex1794

Rear end looks hot and the 5.4L is definatly a GREAT idea, but the rest of the body needs an old school american muscle makeover!

  • Frank

looks and sounds like a winneer

  • Sparwars

YIKES!  without reading others comments:  TOO MUCH CAMEROLIKE!  AVOID,AVOID,AVOID!

  • Srouxd162

Disgustingly hideous. This is a complete turn from the Mustang roots as far as performance, design, cosmetics, and probably price. I heartily disapprove of this direction. That thing is not a mustang, it is an ugly wannabe that takes after that bastard Giugiaro concept more than true American Muscle. If I wanted a Euro cruiser I would pay the extra cash and get an M3. And are they seriously going to do away with the new 5.0 Coyote in the mustang that quickly? This is absolutely distressing. Ford will lose me as a customer if this comes to reality. I will have to just stick with my ’68 Fastback and ’02 GT for the rest of my Mustang future.

I could have sworn I read that Ford said they were ditching the retro styling for 2014

  • Caleb_3

WTF that is stupid! I’m a hard core mustang guy, and have been waiting for 2014 for a long time! I want that 50 year anniversary model. But if it looks like that there is no way in hell I would buy it. Shoot I wouldn’t even give two squirts of piss for it!

  • Fbs04

No looks like the camero! Go back to the 07 style only do a Mach 1 version!

  • Caleb

I would rather just throw that 5.4 in my 2006. Don’t like that body to much!

  • bimbin

its the same as the mustan giugiario

  • Andy

    What mustang? I only see a Camaro….

  • Cobra Mike

This looks like it came right out of the camaro drawing board.  Terrible design, if that’s what you want to call it.  I can draw a better concept than this crap!

  • Richiecurry97

I wouldnt put too much trust into this article. They just showed the 2013 gt500 and it looked nothing like this, guessing the gt will look similar to the gt500 and as far as a 500 hp 5.4l, unless it is a bored out coyote 5.0 i wouldnt believe that part either. ford invested too much into the coyote to scrap it after 3 years. I would think it would be a 5.8l before it would be a 5.4l

A Mustang Isn’t a Mustang without a V8 and forget that slomaro look change it redesign the 05-09 body a little with a 5.0 standard and a 6.2 optional

    • Jpeloquin

Why do you people keep saying that?!?  “A Mustang isn’t a Mustang without a V8″…  I purchased a brand new 2002 Mustang V6 back in 2002.  And sure as s**t seemed like a Mustang to me!…  No where above does it mention ditching the V8!  So do both yourself, and those of us that took the time to read the entire article, a favor, and change your statement to…  “A Mustang isn’t a Mustang if it has a 4 Cylinder”…  And this is why you people are not part of the Ford Engineering team.  They have to try and make everyone happy.  If you’re a Muscle guy, stop bitching about the smaller engines, and buy a V8…  But that in no way should mean that those people that love Mustangs, but cant afford a GT, shouldn’t be able to own a less expensive, higher MPG Mustang.  Which, whether you like it or not, is still a Mustang!…

      • Mfournier

A turbo 4 may not be the cheaper option back in 1986 ford sold a mustang known as the SVO (best year) was 215hp 250lbft out of a 2.5L I4 and it cost $3000 more then the 1986 GT V8.  But that V8 with $3000 of mods had a lot left in it. But that turbo 4 was pretty maxed out.

  • Tbristol418

AGREE WITH EVERYONE ELSE. LOOKS LIKE WAY TO MUCH LIKE THE COMARO MIXED WITH A 370Z. REDESIGN THE PAST GENERATION. DONT MAKE THIS CAR WITH THIS BODY.

  • Bnyheim

There is no muscle look in this car.. looks too much like a foreign car

  • Sncreagh

Don’t do it ford, don’t you do this…

The front view is reminiscent of the Giugiaro mustang concept which I have mixed feelings on. The rear view is…interesting. I don’t hate it but it’ll take some time to warm up to. I do agree with some of the others on here that it feels like Ford is going back to a Fox style engine lineup with a lil turboed 4 banger and then a big v8 for the enthusiasts. As for the styling aspect, nobody wants to see the S-197 go, but it’s been here for 8 years and it’s got another 2 or 3 left. I hate to say it cuz I’ve got an S-197, but it’s time for something new. Also remember that this is a concept and not the final product. Concepts are released for the purpose of gauging the public’s reaction. By 2014, a completely new car could be released and all the naysayers will have to eat their words. Only time will tell.

While I fully unerstand Ford making changes for the European market the one thing I don’t like (besides the very not mustang looking rear) is how the American version will be smaller as well. While I’ve seen some amazing numbers out of those little late 80′s Mustangs (gogo Randy Jackson) this car is after all a muscle car. They should leave the America version on the same size chasis as it is now and produce a “euro” edition (that they could sell a left side drive version in the US as well) but at least leave us with the bigger body/chasis.

I also agree with what some others have said about the body style. Stop with the wanna be supercar look, this is a Mustang not a GT-40/Ferarri Itallia/Audi R8.

Love the IRS and the ecoboost isn’t a bad idea. It does look camaro-ish but we all know that the final product is gonna be different from the concept so i’m not too worried. It should NEVER be right hand drive though.

I’ve been a Ford fan all my life but this thing looks like a piece of crap camaro!! come on Ford … keep it looking like a Mustang!

  • Chris O’Neil

I think the front end looks great as always but what seems to change the most on the Mustang as far as appearance is the rear end and this one I definately don’t like!  It looks too sporty or luxury to me!

  • Alex

Looks too much like some GM piece of s#*t, too sporty, lose the sport, add some muscle, then we’ll talk.

  • Aries_honaker

    HIIIDEEEOUS!!!! Keep it simple Ford.

Like the other bloggers, I saw Camaro when I looked at the renderings… for the love of Pete, why let Europe wussify one of the best American icons.  As for the turbo four-banger, I’m sure that will convert a few ricers out there but for me the best news is the 5.4 500hp V8.  I don’t have an issue with the IRS, but I drag-race Mustangs so I’m hoping they have a stick-axle version.
